New Yorkers were seeing double the other day when gorgeous Julianne Moore and her adorable daughter, Liv Freundlich, stepped out into the chill bundled up in wool peacoats and slim trousers.
Dressed in dark neutral tones, the duo's outfits complemented their thick heads of red hair, fair complexions and pale eyes. The classic wardrobe staple is cute on the six-year-old and equally chic on her mum proving that investing in a traditional garment will get you Winter upon Winter of wear.

Nothing says chic like dressing in all black. This darkness makes for instant drama and sex appeal. There are no rules to styling this trend, so get creative when putting your outfit together.

Three years ago Tom Ford formed the production company Fade to Black and today he finally stopped us guessing what his first move might be. Plans were
recently unveiled for Ford's directorial debut for a movie titled, A Single Man. The movie is based on the book of the same name by
Christopher Isherwood.
This year's
Cannes Film Festival opened with the premiere of Blindness, starring Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo and Gael Garcia Bernal. The movie's out on November 21 in the UK, and I'd love to know what you think of the trailer — so, will you see it? Or will you skip it?

I wonder if Julianne saw Michelle Obama in her Thakoon red and purple print dress when
she wore it at the Democratic National Convention. Needless to say, it's a cute little shift — from Thakoon's '09 Resort collection — appropriate for both political functions and film festivals, where Julianne wore a shorter hem version. Michelle adorned her neckline and was comfy in black flats, while Julianne opted for chunky nude platforms.

I saw
Blindness by myself, with nothing to occupy me on the way home but a copy of Cormac McCarthy's
The Road. Bad idea. This movie requires a funny friend or mindless magazine afterward to decompress.

The stars of the Big Apple came out to show their philanthropic sides last night at the 9th Annual New Yorkers for Children Fall Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in Manhattan. The gala raised money
to benefit children in NYC foster care and also honored music executive Kevin Liles for his charitable work. Beyonce and Jay-Z mingled with guests and laughed while Jimmy Fallon took the stage.

The
MTV VMAs may have been the talk of the town, but the
Toronto Film Festival proved to be just as star-studded. Jennifer Aniston looked fabulous as usual in her mini black dress for
Management, while Keira Knightley looked like royalty once again on the red carpet for
The Duchess. Brad Pitt showed off his
Burn After Reading and talked about
how little sleep he's getting these days taking care of six kids.

Some lovely ladies beat the NYC heat by slipping into some skimpy clothing for
Longchamp's 60th anniversary celebration last night. Despite Josh being
in the city filming Fringe, Diane Kruger hit the party solo, showing off her figure in a daring outfit. Speaking of flaunting a rocking body, Leighton Meister poured herself into that
LBD and showed off her
free-falling bangs posing with costars Jessica Szohr and Nicole Fiscella, while some other
Gossip Girl kids were elsewhere in town
at the big Dark Knight premiere.

America's favorite girl, Abigail Breslin, showcased her sassy sense of 12-year-old style at the New York premiere of
Kit Kittredge: American Girl. Looking every bit her age and like quite the lil lady in a gorgeous, sparkly
Yana Brink couture dress, which was accented at the waist and had a decadently ruffed skirt that any woman would envy.
The actress, who stars as Kit, paired it with complementary peep toed shoes by
BCBG Girls.
