Taylor Swift's VMAs Drink of Choice Isn't What You'd Expect

Forget the champagne problems — thanks to the 2023 MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift has a new favorite drink, and it's something we wouldn't have predicted. On Sept. 12, the Eras icon nearly broke the internet with her candid award show reactions, inspiring the trending hashtag #DrunkTaylorsVersion and a series of viral memes. One video in particular showed her excitedly selecting another cocktail from the VMAs staff, leaving some fans wondering what drink Swift could've possibly been so excited about. Thankfully, the mystery is finally over.

Celebrities like Swift got the party started with a special off-menu cocktail featuring a simple but surprising mix of Bacardi Superior Rum and coconut water. Much like Swift, Bacardi also made history at the award show, serving as the first ever VMAs spirits partner, and ensuring the drinks were flowing for the duration of the hours-long ceremony. Other attendees sipped on the official cocktail of the VMAs: the Mojito Mo-Problems, a reference to The Notorious B.I.G. The beverage was reportedly a fan-favorite, combining rum, lime juice, fresh mint leaves, and passionfruit syrup, as reported by People.

In addition to mojitos and Swift's Bacardi and coconut water, the VMAs cocktail menu included two more festive options for guests to enjoy. The first was the Mango Fuego, made with mango chile rum and grapefruit juice, and the second was the Bacardi 808, which involved rum, banana liqueur, and bitters. To re-create Swift's exact mystery drink at the VMAs, combine 1.5oz of Bacardi Superior Rum, 3.5oz of coconut water, and garnish with a lime wedge. Cheers, Swifties!
