ck Calvin Klein Beauty: It's Here!

We've already heard some background on the relaunch of Calvin Klein cosmetics. Now they're available online at Sephora, which also has some exclusive colors. I haven't been able to check out this line in person yet — although some readers have mentioned in-store sightings at Macy's — but I'm looking forward to it.

Some of the eye shadow shades are beautiful, and the Ultimate Edge Gel Eyeliners are tempting. (If you're a fan of MAC Fluidlines or HIP cream eyeliner, you'll want to check these out.) One big disappointment: The foundations aren't available in shades to suit most women of color, just a range from Soft Beige to Suntan. Hey, Calvin, what gives? In 2008, there's no excuse for launching a cosmetics line and leaving so many women without choices.

The color stuff looks quite nice. I'm a big fan of gel liners, and the lipglosses are appealing, but like you say, the foundation choice is rather limited - though in my case, they're all too dark for me!!! It's just a bit silly, really, to offer so few shades.

I agree, bailaoragaditana. Colors are good, but the foundation range is not so hot. I keep hoping that maybe Sephora hasn't stocked all of them yet. It boggles the mind that they'd do that, you know?

I would like to try the gel liners and lip gloss. As for foundation, there are 2-3 lines that match my skin tone so I remain loyal to them and am not too bothered that this CK line is limited.

I use HIP cream liner so i'd definitley be interested in trying out the CK gel liner, especially in that color, it's gorgeous!

that's *very* uncool that CK would release a makeup line with such limited options for foundation. shame on them.

while i think that ck not releasing a full line of colors in their foundatin kind of sucks, its not unusual for a new line to do that. they are only going to create colors for who their target is and as the line grows they will add more shades for more women. crappy, yes but it is a business decision that many cosmetic lines make

Re: foundation colors, etc, it doesn't seem such a great idea to release a cosmetics line with nothing other than brand name to distinguish it - I mean, Smashbox and Bobbi Brown both offer way more (and IMHO better) gel/cream eyeliners; other companies have more selection in all areas and are better established - nothing really makes the CK line stand out from the competition, and certainly the lack of suitable skin-toned makeup for large numbers of women isn't going to help their appeal for popularity! It doesn't really seem like a smart business decision in any way at all...

I have to agree Bella - in this day and time it is really shameful for a cosmetics brand to launch a line that doesn't cater to all skin tones!!! For that reason I WILL NOT be buying any of these products. GET A CLUE CALVIN KLEIN!

    Hey,

I chatted with their beauty publicist and the developer of this collection. They both say they plan to roll out foundations for more skin tones shortly.

BTW - the collection looks amazing in person. The models wore the entire collection in the CK show this past September.

I guess I don't think it's a big deal. Aren't there actual cosmetic lines which only cater to darker skin tones? I know I've seen that in both department stores and DS. I would not be able to buy a foundation for my ultra pale skin tone in that line, but I could probably use shadows etc. So it's not like I couldn't find a foundation at the next counter or display.

I dont' think it's a ' statement' of any kind. I'm sure if the market calls for it, they will be on top of producing what will sell.
I just don't believe it should be expected. I have a problem finding my color at lots of counters.

Chatnoir: I am saying all cosmetics lines these days should cater to all tones because there are so many shades of women out there. Yes there are lines that cater to darker skin tones but only because they had to be created so that women of color would have some kind of makeup to wear!

The world is simply too diverse for a large company like CK to be so close minded.

My CK Makeup order just arrived from Sephora.com today. I ordered 3 eye shadows in the lightest shades. The color is true to picture on the website, but they were all frosted. The Sephora site describes these eye shadows as mixture of matte and shimmery types, but it does not label which ones these are. Well, all three were shimmery-frost. I tried all three on and instantly looked like I had the most wrinkly old and dry lids. Ashy I guess it could be described. Packaging is pretty, but it has to be the worst shadow I have ever tried on. Sticking with Shu and LM.
