Philosophy Brings a Bit of Chicago History to Your Bath

For decades, the Midwest's best department store was Marshall Field's. Situated in the heart of Chicago's Loop, the store took up an entire city block. For generations of Chicagoans, Marshall Field's was the epitome of class, customer service, and elegance. The building is still there, but last year it was bought by Federated Department Stores, which renamed the store Macy's. (Dumb move on their part—many unhappy Chicagoans have been boycotting the store ever since.)

Although I'm sad to see the Marshall Field's name go, there is a good consolation prize. Macy's worked with Philosophy to create the The Frango Mint Diet ($20), a three-in-one shower gel, bath gel, and shampoo. I don't like the "diet" part of the name (do we really need to constantly be reminded to lose weight? Ugh) but I do like the concept. It's modeled after Marshall Field's famous Frango mints, which blend chocolate with a cool mint flavor. The candies are delicious, and this stuff smells just like a fresh box of them.

I've already said that Philosophy's triple-threat products don't work well as a shampoo, so I'd use this just as a bath and shower gel. But how great would it be to slip into a warm, sudsy bath with a plate of Frango mints—real ones—to nibble?

I loved those mints! Depending on how well they did the chocolate smell, I'd buy it! But not as a shampoo, I agree with you there, Bella. Smiling

I love the Philosophy 3-in-1's, I have tried several of the scents. This one sounds nice, but nothing tops my favorite, Cinnamon Buns.

Despite living in NE since the early 90s, I will always be a Chicagoan.

I am one of those sad people who miss Marshall Fields on State where they used to actually make the wonderful infamous Frangos (up until 2004!!). Sigh... not only has everything been outsourced, but I simply cannot bring myself to buy a Macy's Frango.

This will be a great stocking stuffer for my family members!! Thanks for letting us know.

Oh my gosh! I so want to smell this and if it smells good, I'm so buying it for my aunt! She lives out in Arizona now, but my family has always been about Marshall Fields. I refuse to call the store on State St. anything but Marshall Field's. But even though I've never bought anything there, and probably never will, I'm glad they kept the Christmas tradition of decorating the windows and having the huge tree in the Walnut Room.

Macy's (the crappy NY brand) ruined Marshall Field's (the great Chicago brand)....from their selection to their return policy. Boo for Macy's.

sounds extremely yummy...i wonder if it smells as good as the hot cocoa flavor they had a couple years ago (and i long for...:)hehe).

i have the waffle cone right now and tho i've tried it as a shampoo (it's OK), the bodywash is great.

Philosophy has a lot of stuff for the season out that smells like food, sweet foods. I don't get that. I'm okay with fruity stuff, but I don't want to smell like chocolate or cinnamon buns. I think it's a bit odd to smell like speciality foods.
I do love their Micro Delivery Peel skincare, it's great!

i'm a chicago girl at heart (born there, lived there only for 2 years, but i'm planning to go to college there) and i was really upset they changed the marshall field's to macy's...this helps...a little.

and yes, every time i visit chicago, i stock up on the frango; and always get some in the mail from my uncle for christmas.

I miss Marshall Fields: the history, the customer service that was so personal, the customs, and the experience of shopping there. The Frango Mint Diet smells just like the Frango mints plus the scent doesn't linger after your shower or bath.
