Reader Review: daneen924 on Clinique Supermoisture Makeup Foundation

Foundation is one of the trickiest things to shop for, simply because you're dealing with so many different things: level of coverage, the color, how it smells, how it goes on, and more. So the more reviews I can find, the happier I am. That's why I was glad to run across daneen924, who's been writing lots of posts in the Beauty Product Junkies group. Her review of Clinique Supermoisture Makeup ($22.50) explains exactly how much moisture "super" really means. And with that, I'll hand it over to daneen924:

On the Clinique website, the Supermoisture Makeup is described as having an ultra-creamy yet refreshingly lightweight formula that goes beyond flaw-fixing, providing a dewy look. Clinique promises that this product disguises unevenness with sheer-to-moderate coverage, resulting in soft and radiant looking skin all day.

The saleswoman warned me that the Supermoisture Makeup is meant for individuals with dry skin. Now, while my skin can be an oil slick during the summer, it gets tight and very dry during the fall and winter months. So I told the woman that I still wanted to give it a try. She color-matched me, and the shade she chose was spot-on. However, it was much too dewy for my taste. In fact, it looked—dare I say—greasy. I would only recommend this product to those with extremely parched skin (think Sahara thirsty).

So if you've got really dry skin, it sounds like this might be worth a try. For me, I'll probably try a different formula. Share your product reviews
in the Beauty Product Junkies group, and I might post yours on BellaSugar too.

Clinique's Superfit and Perfectly Real foundations are fantastic. I guess that's why I was so disappointed with this new one. So I ended up purchasing the Superfit Makeup in Nutty. Before I put on the foundation, I prep my skin with Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion...to keep the dry patches at bay.

I found the same thing with the foundation - it felt really heavy and the coverage seemed really thick. I tried Laura Mercier's Moisturizing Foundation and loved it! Would recommend that over SuperMoisture.

I love Clinique products, but do not use their foundation. They don't have a shade that's fair enough for my skin.

I use tinted moisturizer and find that it provides just the right amount of moisture for my sensitive skin.

I think this "supermoisture" formula sounds like a little TOO much moisture for me...unless maybe it was the dead of winter.

I used to work for Clinique and I tried all of their foundations. And most of their skincare, colors, etc.

I hated the skincare, honestly. 3 step is a crock. It ruined my skin while I worked there (And yes, they require you to use it, and provide it for free).

But, I loved the foundations. The acne one was thick, but covered well and healed at the same time (healed the 3 step fallout). Perfectly Real is AMAZING, amazing, and yes, very real. Expensive though. And, I really liked the City whatever tinted moisturizer. Very good stuff as well. They also had some great concealers.

I'd be willing to try this, with dry skin and all, if I wasn't so In Big Love with Bobbi Brown's The Balm Tinted Moisturizer stuff!

I've been thinking I should use foundation lately- I use the Bare Minerals foundation/ powder right now but it doesn't offer much coverage. However, I'm worried liquid foundation will look cakey or be heavy-- any suggestions on light ones that actually cover and don't cause breakouts?

If your skin is THAT oily in the summer, it's probably a lack of exfoliation in the winter that makes it feel so tight. If I were still working for Clinique, I would never have let you buy that stuff--it's for the oldies and the extremely dry-ies. Not flaky, but actual dry skin.

I have dry skin and this was a little too oily for me, still. It was when i put it on, but by 2pm I felt oily. Honestly, I felt super oily, but that's probably because I'm not used to my face feeling like that.

That should read, "It was fine when I put it on..."
