Love It or Hate It? Tom Ford For Men Campaign

We've already seen a few ads for Tom Ford For Men, the new fragrance that hits Saks on September 24. As it turns out, those were the tame ones! Tom and photographer Terry Richardson saved their raunchiest photos for the website, where you can see some ads that are definitely not safe for work. What do you think of this campaign? Is it sexy, as Tom claims, or tacky? (I bet you can guess what I think.)

IMO, it's overkill -- and while once upon a time it might've been provocative, now it's just kind of obvious. To me, that makes it less sexy, not more.

there was a time when tom ford could really push the boundaries with sexuality in fashion and still maintain a sense of class--sophie dahl back when she had curves posing nude for opium perfume is still one of my favorite iconic fashion images. it was startling and sensational without being crass.

which is all this is. it's tasteless objectification of women in a blatant attempt to try and sell some men's fragrance. lame, boring, unoriginal, and gross. i am so very disappointed in tom for pulling something as lame as this.

The only way it could have been more scandalous would have been if the bottle was shaped like a penis.

I think that it's brave. I love it, however majority of people won't. Come on it's just a vajay-jay we all have one or have seen one.

Reminds me of Sex and The City...absolute hunk...
    ah yes Eye-wink

He wouldn't be Tom Ford if he didn't push the envelope. So, while I don't see it as brilliant, I do see it as being perfect for Tom Ford.

I definitely think this sort of advertising has a negative effect on our culture. Reducing women to just their body parts is extremely problematic. We all know this and yet we like to think that it doesn't affect us.

With cosmetic surgery skyrocketing, self esteem plummeting, and women exploiting themselves in the name of raunch culture, I can't quite understand why people would think these ads don't play a part in the misogyny of it all.

I agree. I am so tired of raunch culture. As I said to Yum at lunch, I don't want to look like a porn star, and while it's fine if other people do, the *expectation* to mimic the porn aesthetic is what bothers me. Sigh.

"I can't quite understand why people would think these ads don't play a part in the misogyny of it all."

-would be more on point by saying:

"I can't quite understand why people would think these ads don't play a part (however small) in their own life or in the lives of those around them."

Reminds me of the Gucci ads a couple of years ago with the 'G' shaped pubes.
Personally, I neither love it or hate it. Fashion photography and marketing has become so much about the shock factor and not the product that it just becomes so not shocking. I mean how exactly does this relate to the product he's selling exactly, or am I missing something - is this where one should be applying one's fragrance.

Meh. I know what my ladybits look like. I don't need to know what they would look like if obscured by a bottle of perfume. Lame, lame, lame. Anyone can take a body part and stick it in a photo--where's the originality?

I don't like it but its good marketing. It got all of us talking about it. It's the Britney Spears of perfume.

For me I don't think the issue is sexy or not, but do I really want to smell like shaved cooch? Not so much.

I get that it's supposed to be provocative and push the envelope. However, it's just.....blantant, unimaginative and a complete objectification of women. This is not sexy. Sexy is a hint, a tease, more of a Gypsy-Rose Lee type thing - even if today we are more naked in ads than before. This....this is actually quite boring. Brazilianed and photoshopped and vanilla porn star-esque.

I agree with so many of the posters here. I am open-minded. I think it's tasteless. I think it propagates misogyny. I think it objectifies women and turns us into parts.

But moreso, I don't think it shocking in the way he wants it to be. It's shocking that someone would be so demeaning. But it's not the least bit artistic because it's soft-core porn.

Late comedian Bill Hicks said that one day they would just have a woman advertise a product with her naughty bits so everyone could see. People laughed at the very idea of it but he was right!
