A Sense For Beauty, Part I: Touch

Welcome to my series on the five senses and beauty products. You may not realize that you are drawn to certain items because they appeal to your sense of taste, touch, sight, hearing, and smell, but subconsciously these qualities have a huge influence over what you chose to purchase. This series is a great way for you to gain insight into your mind, body, spirit — and bathroom. Today's topic is touch.

Touch and beauty are correlated on many levels. For example, Body So Fine body balm by Benefit ($30) is one of the company's best sellers because of its unique velvety cream-to-powder texture. Also, products that have dense, oily, or milky consistencies can attract or deter people from using them.

Touch also plays an intricate role in a spa experience. Hands-on treatments (as opposed to saunas, steam rooms, and baths) are fantastic ways to boost your mood. Did you know that the human touch releases "happy" endorphins that can physically help reduce blood pressure, stress, and anxiety? Psychologically, touch can also make you feel less isolated and more secure. Do you love the way a certain bath, body, or hair product feels? If so, please share your thoughts with me in a comment below.

Any body lotion that calls itself - Body Butter. Hubby bought me same olive oil and mango body butter and ever sense I just love the thick consistency of it.

I love L'occitane Grape Seed Shower Oil. It glides on and then the water beads off, and leaves such a sweet smell.
It doesn't leave me feeling oily-- but rather smooth and smelling so sweet and fresh. It really is appeasing to my senses. =)

I agree with body butters. I like this little container of an organic lotion that I have. I also like the cleansing milk from this package of Dr. Hauschka products I got once. I like how my aloe vera/green tea moisturizer feels. It also falls under the category of favorite smelling products.

A serum made by Lancome I got in a GWP. It was sample size so it didn't last long, but I absolutely loved the feel and texture. I never bought it because it's aimed for a more mature woman but when I feel I need to buy some serious anti-aging skin care this is a brand i'll check out first.

For no other reason other than the way it makes my skin feel, I use Skyn Iceland Glacial face wash and their oxygen infusing night cream. Both products have a cooling effect and relieve me from the stress of the day. Their packaging appeals to my sense of sight as well. While I'm applying my night cream, I always read the container and it soothes me.

I love the minty coolness of a little Finnish organic shampoo that I use, especially after a sauna.

And though when it comes to skincare I am a big fan of REN, I always keep a tube of Weleda's wild rose cream around, because it absorbs so fast, and feels so nice on the skin.

I love the texture of my Johnson's stress relief body wash. It is so soft and almost like a body butter but much more spreadable.
