How Do You Deal With Visible Tan Lines?

We've all seen the photos of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony sunning themselves on a gorgeous Spanish Island, and now we're seeing the tan lines. Marc received an award from Milan's town council yesterday, and Jen's asymmetrical dress showed off the ghost of her bikini. When you have tan lines, do you mind, or do you just let it ride?

I think tan lines look kind of cute, except for really formal occassions. I think you could drive yourself a little crazy trying to get rid of them with self tanner or bronzer. I try not to get tan at all, so I never really end up in this situation.

I don't mind the bikini top tan lines.. I actually think they look kinda hot.
Any other tan lines esp t-shirt sleeves I absolutely hate, so I usually apply self tanner and some bronzer on top.

Happy to have a wicked farmers tan. I look absolutely silly in a swim suit, but who really cares.

I don't tan even though last year I got an accidental tan on one arm only and on another occasion I got an accidental one on my hands only because I didn't notice that I didn't probably apply sunblock there, even though I think I also forgot because I was wearing long sleeves. I wouldn't use fake tanner. I just waited for those accidentals to fade, even though they weren't exactly obvious anyway but outside of those 2 exceptions, I never tan at all anywhere.

If I get them - no problem. I don't lay-out so if I have them they tend to fade quickly.

I don't mind them. My boyfriend hates when people are all super tan all over. He thinks it looks so fake. As he said "No ones armpits should be the same color as their face and arms". I think having discrepancies in your tan (bikini lines, t-sh*t lines or like me, wife beater tan lines) are more normal looking.

I'm big into sun protection, so I rarely have them. On our last day of our honeymoon, though, we went rock climbing, and now I have an awful tank top (thick strap kind) tan... and this weekend, I have to wear a somewhat backless dress as a bridesmaid in a wedding. Whoops! From the front, I have no strange tan lines, so I'll be fine in all the pictures, and from the back, well, good thing nobody takes any formal pictures from behind! Smiling It doesn't exactly look great, but I loathe self-tanner, so I'm not going to spend hours trying to fix it.

I am a rower, so I have to wear a Unisuit (yes, a spandex unisuit) outside in the blazing sun. I always have a ridiculous farmer's tan. but you know what? I don't mind!

I grew up swimming competitively year round. I remember trying to get them to be less noticeable for my junior and senior proms by using self-tanner on my shoulders, but the tan lines were still VERY present. Now I am very careful about my sun exposure and don't really have tan lines.

I wear sunscreen but I tan anyway when I'm outside (not complaining!), so tan lines are inevitable for me. They don't bother me all that much, but I always attract weird looks when I'm at a public pool Sticking out tongue

I've been really cautious of my skin lately due to lots of skin cancer threats on my dad's back. I haven't been going out of the sun if I don't have to. I've got fair skin so my risk for cancer is higher than people who don't. Besides, I happen to find pale skin just as sexy and beautiful as tanned skin. I also think that if you tan too dark, it looks fake or unnatural.

I really don't mind tan lines but if I'm going to attend a function then I would probably try to find a dress that covers them up pretty much.

I don't lay out or go to tanning salons so I don't ever really get tan lines. If I did have them, it wouldn't bother me too much though, unless it was a formal occasion. Then i'd try to fill them in with self tanner.

I don't mind them. I play tennis all the time and trust me, I have some weird tan lines. I don't bother putting self-tanner because I'm very cautious with those things. It takes a very long time for me to get rid of those tan lines, but I've gotten used to them.

Don't mind them although if it was a annoying line just sweep some bronzer on (I believe they make waterproof liquid bronzer so I would say mix abit in with moisturizer and apply to the spot.) Personally I don't really tan so any line isn't obvious.

Alhough I hate farmer's tans (shirt sleeve line) which is just weird to see.

My fella thinks tan lines are hot, because it implies a hidden bit of skin is being exposed. I don't mind it, but I'm another one who only tans accidentally.

Here's what I really wonder. Why in the heck are 90% of bikini tops halter tops? I mean really, most people don't wear halter tops that much on a day to day basis. Tank style straps on a bathing suit make so much more sense!

I don't show them. But I usually only show my arms and legs. And I don't tan. I self-tan those areas to be presentable in public.

as a filipino (tans easily, never burns) member of the swim team from 5th grade til senior year; swim season being in the spring; i am beyond used to visible tan lines. it especially hit me in high school...prom was always ridiculous because my dresses never covered the crazy strap and circle and x marks. and i tan so easily that when my practice suit was striped (which it was one year), so was my butt. yeah, seriously. it was blue and black striped and i tanned through the blue stripes. my tan lines were so obvious and so plentiful that i couldnt do anything about it. actually in a dirty video chat with my boyfriend, he once asked if i was wearing white panties or if that was my tan. it was my tan...

hehe poizen that's hilarious - yeah, I hear that some clothes are so thin (a lot of cotton stuff) that you will tan and can actually burn even though they cover you. some people say you should wear sunscreen even under clothing. anyways, I hate how tan lines look, but I'm too lazy to do anything about them...

I go to the tanning salons too, and I have a thong tan line that I am especially proud of Smiling ~ I would never wear a thong at the beach but I always wanted a tan rear, so nothing to be ashamed about here!
As for shoulder straps, I don't mind them on other people but on me I feel like it is just distracting, it's like wearing the wrong necklace with your outfit.

Since my tan lines are pretty intense, I dont wanna remove them completely since that looks kinda fake, but I put bronzer over them to kind of dissuade them but not cover them completely. Hers looks bad though since its a formal event. For a formal event, and especially a dress like that, i would cover them completely

I don't like seeing the tan lines at all on the neckline or shoulders.... and on formal occasions it's horrific!

Whenever I see a bride in a strapless gown and with tan lines, I just imagine the bikini is always there and the magic elegant moment is gone!

I tan very easily even with 40 or 50 protection.
To avoid the lines, I change bikinis shape everyday or I move the straps often or I just let them down for a little while to even the tone contrast.
I arrive at the beach at 4PM, and I just go there for having fun in the waves! I never go far into the ocean though...

I never get tan so I don't have to worry about it. I'd just use bronzer to blend it in a little. I don't notice them on other people unless I'm looking for it.

A slight tan-line around the collarbone can look sexy...but not if it's incredibly obvious. I maintain that the best tan lines are for the eyes of your lover. Eye-wink
