DIY Spa Treatment: Ginger-Mint Body Scrub

Store-bought brown sugar scrubs are divine, but when their prices swing upward toward the $50 mark, that's a lit-tle high for most people. Fortunately, whipping up your own scrub couldn't be easier — and the results are just as good.

You will need:

  • Honey
  • Freshly grated ginger root
  • Chopped fresh mint leaves
  • Olive oil
  • Brown sugar, light or dark

To see what to do, read more.

Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl — it's up to you to decide how much ginger and mint you'd like, but a ratio of 1/3 olive oil to 2/3 brown sugar will provide a good base for the scrub. About a tablespoon of honey will provide an antiseptic quality to the scrub.

The best way to use this scrub is on dry skin; it's particularly good on hands and feet. After buffing your skin, rinse with warm water. You'll have incredibly softer skin for a small fraction of a name-brand scrub!

I have been eyeing the Fresh brown sugar scrub- but I can't get around spending so mush for something I can realistically whip up. The ginger and mint- any significance or just for aroma? Lucky me- I have some bakin to do and just bought some more brown sugar Eye-wink

I made a similar scrub - I used olive oil, white sugar, lemon juice/zest and basil oil. I went a little heavy on the basil, but it does make my skin soooo soft! I definitely reccommend it.

Plus, this way I know exactly what's going into the scrub and onto my skin - no strange chemicals for me...

Oh, I like the idea of the lemon juice- you get some lightening/brightening effects from that.

I just bought some scrub (for under $10) that I love, but when it runs out I'm definitely going to try this!

Sofi, the mint can help a bit with stinky feet (not that you'd ever have stinky feet, of course Eye-wink) and the ginger is said to create an invigorating sensation. But really, I just like it because of the scent!

Interesting...I love anything that smells like ginger!

I like the DIY idea...I personally wouldn't spend more than $20 on a body scrub.

i love these diy posts! i've also made some scrubs myself... i used jojoba oil and some sugar and just mixed it in my hand in the shower. i like the idea of adding honey, ginger & mint... oh & getting rid of some of my clumped up brown sugar wouldnt be a bad thing either!

    Awesome!
I've made my own scrubs and frankly I think they work better than a lot of retail ones. I'll have to try this recipe.
