Product Review: Philosophy The Supernatural Concealer

No matter how good your genes or how much beauty sleep you get, the time will come when you need an undereye concealer. (And yes, I know some of you are 18 and bright-eyed and you don't need it. I was once one of you. Just you wait.) In my view, a good concealer should cover dark circles without looking masklike, it should go on without tugging skin, and it shouldn't settle into fine lines.

I've tried many concealers, and only a few live up to these expectations. That's why I'm so excited about Philosophy's The Supernatural concealer ($25). It's technically called "airbrushed color corrector," which accurately describes the look it provides. Three shades are available (light, medium, dark), and there are three colors within each compact. Now, this might seem unnecessary, but it's actually the thing that makes this stuff so brilliant.

The key to making The Supernatural concealer work for you is to use the included brush to apply color where you need it. For instance, I started by using the lightest shade on my undereye area, which evened out my skin tone but still left a little bit of my purple circles visible. Then, I dabbed a bit of the medium shade wherever I still saw the circles. A little blending, a tiny bit of the dark shade near the inner corners of my eye, and voila! Perfect coverage. The kind that makes you look naturally well-rested, like you're not wearing a lick of makeup. And it didn't take more time than my usual concealer routine.

To see a photo of the concealer in action, read more.

So, not to go all Two-Face on you, but here's a photo that illustrates just how well this works. I'm not wearing any makeup except for The Supernatural under my right eye (which is at your left, of course).

Yum took the picture, and when she saw me without concealer, she said I looked like a panda. Sadly, she is right. But would you look at the coverage on the eye that does have concealer? Totally natural-looking, soft, and effective. I love this stuff.

(Also, every time I take one of these pictures to post, I am reminded that it's time for a brow-shaping appointment. Ugh!)

Wow! The difference is really dramatic! I've been looking at this palette for aaages on Sephora, debating whether or not to get it, because I've had pretty crappy luck with other concealers and am decently happy with MAC Studio Fix. But you've sold me! The Philosophy palette shall soon be winging its way to me Laughing out loud

I definitely want to try this..It looks completely natural. The current concealer I'm using likes to setting in the teeny tiny fine lines under my eyes which just makes them look bigger.

I'm going to have to get some of this. I'm one of those 18-year-olds, but bright-eyed? No. College is taking a toll on my sleep schedule.

OMG, that looks amazing! I just bought Benefit Erase Paste and it's the best I've tried so far but if I could have perfect coverage like that I'd be very happy. Smiling

Thanks for all of your comments! I was so excited by the coverage that I had to show you. It lasts all day without getting creasy or greasy, too. Big thumbs-up in my book. Then again, in Paula Begoun's book, it earns an unhappy face — which surprised me, considering how much I loved this product. To each her own, right?

It's so awesome to see a review accompanied by a photo! Thanks for sharing Bella--I've been going back and forth on getting a new concealer (not totally happy with my BE one lately) and this has been in my Sephora shopping bag for a while. Good to know it works so well Smiling

LOL. I wish! I'm 17 right now and I ACTUALLY look like a panda without makeup on. My undereye circles are 10x darker than yours, Bella, and I needed concealer for it since I was like...12 T___T

But yeah, thanks for the review~
It was quite helpful and I think I'm gonna go out and buy some of this stuff now xD

I agree Kaori! I definitely have under-eye circles during stressful school times that don't go away until I have a few nights that consists of 12 hours of sleeping. That, and I need some good concealer for my acne scars. Smiling

haha I bought this for my mommy about a year ago from QVC. She thought it was a waste of money, but I insisted lol. She loves it now and uses it every day. She should've gotten it in light but we weren't sure and got the medium. But the medium works just fine because she can blend it to the lighter shade. She loves it and I tell her this when she bashes QVC. LMAO.

    Green eyes are pretty.

Anyway, I bought that in Dark, but I took it back. One of the colors was useless and mixing took too much time.

I love this stuff and I love the creamy factor so that it doesn't just clomp on and look cakey. The consistency is really nice and it travels well. Another great product is the Supernatural tinted moisturizer with SPF 15. I had no idea how great it looks until I saw my sister's (Sugargal Bizzybee) skin in daylight. It was just incredible. As sometimes it's hard to tell on yourself, but I love how naturally beautiful it makes your skin, especially if you are going for a clean, natural look!

Bella, this might be a horribly stupid question but is it just for under-eyes? I desperately need something for my dark shadows (thank you genes and bad, bad sinus problems) but I was curious if it works well as a normal concealer as well. Regardless, I'm overnighting if from Sephora asap! Thank you!

Brombe1, that isn't a stupid question at all. You can use it on acne as well. However, it isn't an oil-free formula; there's mineral oil, among other ingredients, so you might want to be aware of that. I've only been using it under my eyes, but if you get it, let me know what you think!

the with and without pic is great.

i ordered one from sephora.com Smiling
i think we're going to deplete their stock over there!

i've been using Physicians Formula Powder Finish Concealer Stick in yellow for my undereye circles. it gave me OK coverage. i figured that my circles were so dark that nothing could get me completely covered. but its definitely time for a change.

i hope it works for me as well as it did for you!

Thanks for review Bella! It was good to see photo of the result. The concealer looks so promising. I really struggle with the under eye area and haven't been able to find anything that'd help.
