This Razor Stinks. Literally.

Inevitably I get confused when it comes to buying razors and period products. There's just too much variety, and I wind up roaming the aisle like a confused, premenstrual, hairy zombie. Eventually I just grab a package that looks vaguely like what I have at home, and if I can't remember what's at home, I get sucked in by the cheapest deal. It is an imprecise science at best.

Last Sunday, after looking around desperately for a Venus razor, I wound up buying Bic Soleil Citron razors because of a special deal that appealed to the cheapskate within: 4 + 2 Bonus En Prime! I like French things, so why not get the razors that come with two more for free, right? Problem was, when I got home, I noticed that the razors are lemon-scented. (Ugh. How do you say, "These don't smell so good" in French?)

As far as their hair-removing capabilities are concerned, these razors work well enough. Compared to the Bics of yesteryear, they shave closely, but not as well as the Venus. Still, despite the good quality for the price, I won't buy them again. While the fake lemon scent isn't overpowering, it's completely superfluous. Who in her right minds sniffs her razor? And why introduce even more smells and chemicals into your grooming routine if you don't need to?

The Soleil works fine for me, but I was also weirded out by the fact that they're scented.

"...I wind up roaming the aisle like a confused, premenstrual, hairy zombie."..Hahah!

I've bought these for the exact same reason you did..the whole 2 bonus razors sucked me in. These razors aren't bad, but I still prefer Venus.

Bic does the job just fine if you don't have a ton of hair to take care of.

That is weird. Sometimes I wish there weren't SO many choices when it comes to beauty/hygiene products- it makes life that much more stressful trying to make a selection!

Ugh. Lemon-scented razors? Actually, scented razors generally. (LOL @ Petra's tampon comment - I've always been kinda confused about that too!) I've had an ongoing love affair with the Venus razors - I got my first one when I was 16 or 17, and I just got my second one, I'm really loving the Breeze cartridges now... but yeah. No Bic razors pour moi.

I actually like these and the cheapskate in me also bought them for the 4+2 deal- but mine are different and not scented. I think they are for sensitive skin?

I use these razors - but not the Citron, ew...get the pink & lavender ones. They're scented like...lavender?? I'm not sure. It's very subdued, though, and it doesn't linger on your skin at all. I have ubersensitive, spastic skin and I've never gotten razor burn from these, even though they do shave closely. =)

I bought these in a rush for a trip I was going on and it ended up making some of my clothes smell like fake Lemon. Odd. The razors worked.. okay. Better than some and less expensive than the Venus.

i love Venus, myself. i'm sooo happy they make them so the wand fits any of the blades... because YOU KNOW how often they crank out new, "innovative" blade types. so far i'm loving the Venus Embrace blades Smiling

Maybe my skin is just really sensative, but I thought these razors were horrible! They tore my skin up and gave me the worst razon burn. I use Venus and I love it!

I use these, as well. I refuse to spend the money they want for some of the razors on the market (like Venus, which I've tried and think work about as well as these), but the really cheap ones are a waste because they only work a few times before they need to be tossed. These are a very happy medium. I think it's odd that they scent them, but you can't smell it unless you bring it right up to your nose, so I just ignore that aspect.

Petra at Glamour, regarding scented tampons... I always thought that was freaky weird, and assumed they were made for women who were concerned about their lady bits not smelling sweet, but I accidentally bought a box of them once, and after some sniffing, I've noticed that it's the *wrapper* that's scented, not the tampon. I could be wrong, but I think this is to help mask any odor that might linger in your trash when you toss the applicator (which I slip back into the wrapper, personally). They actually smell nice, too. lol They don't cost any more than unscented, so I buy them regularly now. Even though I empty my bathroom trash like every other day, it's a little luxury I've come to enjoy.

So gross! (I love your description of a hairy, pms zombie!lol.) I use to use the Gillete Fusion however afterwhile that was to expensive; so I now use the Schick Quattro Disposiable razors for women; it's cheaper and it does a good job shaving.

"I wind up roaming the aisle like a confused, premenstrual, hairy zombie." Ha! Bella, I totally agree. there are just TOO many choices...as evidenced by the fact that a lemon-scented razor even exists.

^ By "So gross!" I was refering to a scented razor; why do we need scented razors? We don't sniff our legs?!lol. I don't see the point of lemon scented razors.

I use these razors and love them - I just buy them cause they're pretty though, I never actually sniff them Sticking out tongue (And I prefer the pink/purple ones) I'm sure they smell a lot better than some of the shaving cream options out there though! Who comes up with those??

I am not a Bic fan at all, I tried the Soliel ones last summer and was not impressed (I didn't even use up the whole pack). I went back to Venus and wont' stray again.

thanks for confirming that Bic is the worst and Venus is the best - I've been telling my mom and friends that for years! I will pay whatever the price for Venus - it's the only razor I need. Also - just, if anybody is curious and/or didn't know, DO NOT USE SHAVING CREAM! When I fist started shaving, I always used it and everything was fine - no special results, though. However, one time I ran out and just used soap - OH MY GOD! I probably sound like an idiot but this was a huge discovery for me! It makes your legs so much more smoother than using cream, so, hope this helps someone...

Most people don't use soap because it results in cuts more easily than shaving cream. And shaving cream is ridiculously cheap- well, some is. Sticking out tongue Some is laughably expensive and doesn't do anything special.

I could do without the extra chemical smell polluting up the environment but they're my favorite disposable razors otherwise.
