Guerlain's Palette Sells Out Online; Should You Seek It Out?

I've been hearing a lot of buzz about the limited-edition Guerlain eye shadow palette that recently came out for Spring. And when you look at the Fleur de Feu palette ($57), it's easy to see why people are excited about it. Hervé Van Der Straeten, who designed Guerlain's lipsticks, created this quad of shadows, and the floral motif is gorgeous.

Fleur de Feu is sold out online, but this weekend I trekked to Bloomingdale's and had a look in person. Sorry to be a party pooper, but I don't think the product justifies the hype for this pricey piece. The untouched palette really is beautiful, but the tester that I tried had already lost its design. Without it, it's just another palette of four pretty colors, with a dusting of shimmery pink on top. If I were filthy rich, maybe I'd be sad about missing out on this item, but for now, life will continue on just fine without it.

It is quite pricey...I have other make-ups I want to spend my money on!

Whooa that is so gorgeous! But you're right, it isn't practical. I definitely wouldn't pay that sort of money for it. The colors do seem really pretty and wearable, which is more you can say for a lot of palettes though.

Pretty, but that doesn't mean it's going to be pretty on me. Thanks for the info Bella

It's pretty, but like you said, the prettiness doesn't last very long - and the colors themselves aren't anything special. I did just drop almost that much for the new Bobbi Brown palette, but I know that I'll use that palette until it's gone (and then probably have a funeral for it). This... well, it looks nice. But that's not a reason to spend 70 bucks.

This is pretty - but not $70 worth of pretty. I like the color and the design is pretty, which makes it special, but after a couple of uses, like you said, the design would disappear.

Yeh... those makeups with designs on them are placed just on top. They do not last beyond the first use.

    It is gorgeous tho!

I only like the dark colour. The rest look typical.

Very pretty, but I think some of these shades would make me look sickly. Pink shadow shades usually do.

Okay, this might sound silly, but the first time I saw the pattern, I thought it was a picture of the pink panther... The colors reminds me a lot of it, but mostly I think it's because yesterday I saw a really pink baby stroller with lots of pink panther logo on it *cringes*.
