A few months ago, Vogue talked about purposely visible roots. Always one to hop on trends before they reach the masses, Madonna showed off gorgeous blonde curls with a bit of her natural brunette hair at the Berlin Film Festival yesterday. What's your take on showing your roots? Source

If you only have some highlights it's ok, but if you bleached or dyed all your hair with a completely different color from your natural hair color and the roots look like they're made by a ruler (I'm looking at you, Madonna) it looks horrible

Depends, if you have dark blond roots peeping with mid blonde hair (or a similar situation) no problem. Dark roots with light hair - nope, please don't try to turn laziness into a trend!
*Madge looks so much like my mom in this photo it's kind of freaking me out!

I think it can look cool. Gwyneth Paltrow, Amamda Bynes, Gwen Stefani, Ali Larter, Cameron Diaz, MK Olsen, Scarlett Johansen, Heidi Klum, Sienna Miller +++ have all done it in unique and flattering ways (in my opinion). There is a age limit to the harser versions though, and even if Madonna looks freakishly young I think this style has too much contrast for her look to handle. Especially since it's short and curly.

Yeah, in some instances it looks good, but not when you have bleached blonde hair with dark brown roots. But in my case, I like a little root showing on me. My hair is dyed light goldish blonde and I have slightly darker golden blonde roots, so a little root showing looks good and gives my hair a little depth I think.

Well I would love it if it would take off...save me some $$$ on getting my hair done. I have dark hair always getting touch ups!

Not for me... I like the more natural look, I try to stick to shades that are close to my natural hair color...

I hate it and I'm very blonde. I'm so sick of sitting in the salon for endless hours that I'm considering going dark.

Fleurfairy that's what I did and love it! I was a blond for 40 years (natural blond to dark, ugly, dishwater blond, so highlighted even in my teens. When I hit 40, I decided to go darker and was shocked I saw a few grey hairs! Now I can go much longer without worrying about my roots.

I always thought roots showing looked trashy but that's my opinion. I just prefer more natural-looking hair.

I think visible roots look unprofessional. Having said that, if you're NOT a professional, go ahead and rock the roots. I actually like to see a little bit of roots on someone whose hair color is obviously fake anyway. I think black roots look especially cool with colors like magenta and blue.

I believe it looks nice on certian women.
I actually don't understand the big "let down"
of having showing your roots...Women get highlights
which shows a lighter parts and darker parts of the hair.
Not to mention some women keep their roots when getting
the highlights. Go figure right? LOL

Shakira made it cool but if you're not Shakira it might be time to color your hair...

On a side note, does anyone think that Madonna is sporting some new cheek implants? Maybe it's her makeup, maybe it's the angle of the photos, but all the pictures from the promotion of this film...Madge sure has prominent cheek bones!

Not my thing. I find it distracting. It's like I enter another realm of endless questions:
Did she mean to do that?
Man, those are really dark. Is that what she wants people to notice?
    blah blah blah....

Her cheeks do look odd, sushib, but I think it's a sign of her age.

It is a sign for me to get the touch up...Alas, I would think at this point the roots would grow in blonde. They should know instinctively...

when i was reading that issue of Vogue i was thinking that its wrong for celebrities to have roots because they have ""people"" to fix these things for them, but mere mortals like the rest of us can have less frequent color touch-ups especially if the shade you colour is close to your natural colour.

i am blonde and i am so tire of touching up every two weeks that i am considering going dark. i just think that when you dye your hair and your roots shows it looks careless like you don't take care of yourself.

I think Madonna is sporting a new face lift. Pictures of her from 6 months ago... she now looks distinctly different.

But not knocking anyone wanting to have a lift done. She doesn't look freakish** and didn't go over board with it. Just wish she would get those teeth filed a bit. They are looking a bit haggard.

(**IE: any of the face lifts on Dr. 90210 are nearly always freakish)

I have been putting off doing my hair for a bit and it looks horrible! But it's not THAT big of a difference either. BUT I will be getting it done this weekend!

it's for lazy people who can't be bothered to dye their hair again.
I think it's ugly and like most trends, stupid.

I think if you have subtle highlights then you can get away with it, but a visible stripe is not a good look in my opinion. I swear they tried this trend a few years ago, I can't see it catching on.
